Welcome back to Term 3

We had a fabulous start to the term! We were so lucky to have presenters from Genesis Energy.

They came in and taught so many exciting things about how energy is formed. We also had the opportunity to generate energy manually using the 'Human Generator'.

Some facts from the session were:

There are different ways of collecting energy.

Solar panels collect energy from the sun.

Water hydro dam gathers water from everywhere and put it through huge pipes. Starts of as potential energy and kinetic energy when it goes down the pipes

Wind energy - Mostly used in Wellington and Palmerston north areas as it is very windy. Wind turbines are used to collect energy.

Fossil fuel ise used. There are two main ones used in New Zealand. Natural gas is burnt to make energy and coal.

Geo-thermal electricity comes from under the ground. Extracts steam from the ground.

Here are some pictures from our session!
Emrico and Scarlet were lucky first to be selected to have a go with the Human Generator in the senior school

Matariki Festival

This week is the last week of Term 3, we had such a blast celebrating Matariki as a whole school.

In Feu’u class, we discussed what Matariki was and why it was celebrated. We paired up with a buddy and we created presentations about Matariki.

Matariki is the Maori new year, so we decided that we wanted to set learning goals for ourselves. So decided to write our goals on feathers and create a class Korowai. A Korowai is a special cloak that Maori people wear on important occasions.

Our presenters for Feu'u class were Mekhi, Justin and Mahrosh.

The whole school dressed up in their wonderful cultural outfits, we had so much fun!

Here are some photos of our day.
